Catholic Church Refuses to Bless Same-Sex Marriages

"It is not permitted to give blessings to relationships or partnerships, even stable ones, which involve sexual activity outside of marriage (that is, outside the inextricable union of a man and a woman open to the transmission of life), as in the case of unions between people of the same gender".

This is said in the decision of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith is the oldest and the paramount out of the nine congregations of the Roman Curia, which is responsible for overseeing the orthodoxy and purity of doctrine and morality preached in the Roman Catholic Church.

"At the same time, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, had previously spoken out in support of same-sex civil unions. He also urged not to condemn the priests themselves if they have a non-traditional sexual orientation", - reminds the Interfax news agency.

"Homosexuals are children of God, and they have the right to a family. Nobody should be unhappy because of this... We must pass a law on civil union", - Francis said. Earlier, while serving as the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, he favored civil unions of homosexual couples instead of same-sex marriage.

However, the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith also left a chance for people in same-sex union - they can receive blessings separately. “God himself never stops blessing every one of his pilgrim children in this world, because for him we are more important than all the sins we can commit. But he does not bless and cannot bless sin", - is noted in the statement of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
