Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) Kirill approved the earlier decision of the diocesan court to deprive protodeacon and famous theologian Andrei Kurayev, but postponed the publication of his decree, giving him time to "return to the path of the church". Andrey Kurayev saw "unprecedented novelties" in this.

“I am glad that because of me unprecedented novelties appear in the church. The last phrase is very accurate “the path of the Church, which was chosen by him in due time”. Here it is quite appropriate to spell “Church” with a capital letter. I really wanted (and I want) to go along with the Church of Christ. But in what relationship is this Church with a specific legal entity named "Moscow Patriarchate" in its current state, I find it difficult to say. But it is definitely not a relationship of identity", - wrote Andrey Kurayev in his Live Journal...

Andrey Kurayev also added that there have already been many episodes in history when someone disagreed with the position of the contemporary church, but was later acquitted. Unfortunately, most often this happened after death. He also promised to "rethink" his views, since he was given time for this.

Andrey Kurayev was deprived of the rank of protodeacon at the Diocesan Court of Moscow after his "offensive description" about the rector of the Yelokhovsky Cathedral, Alexander Ageikin, who died of coronavirus. The theologian in his LiveJournal called him "a stupid careerist who has made a career in the field of VIP service", - reports the Dozhd TV channel. The court's decision also refers to signs of the slanderous activities of Andrey Kurayev, in particular about his accusations of the ROC in "organizing a split".

Archpriest Vladislav Tsypin, a member of the Moscow Diocesan Court, Doctor of Church History, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, noted that Patriarch Kirill could change the sanction and not deprive Protodeacon Andrey Kurayev of the dignity, introducing a moratorium, he gave him a chance.
