Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra announced the detention of 14 Russian yachts in the country: they will not be able to leave the country due to sanctions against the Russian Federation imposed against the backdrop of Russia's special military operation on the territory of Ukraine.

As follows from the letter of the diplomat to the lower house of parliament (House of Representatives) of the Netherlands, we are talking about 12 yachts under construction, including superyachts over 35 meters long, as well as two yachts that are under maintenance in the Netherlands.

“In connection with the current export measures, deliveries (to the Russian Federation) of these vessels are currently prohibited”, - Hoekstra’s letter was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.

New packages of sanctions against Russian politicians, officials, propagandists and businessmen of the Western countries began to be introduced on February 24, when Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.

Representatives of Western states accused Russia of military aggression, violation of human rights and introduced serious restrictive measures against the country and its citizens that affected many sectors of the economy, including the manufacturing and banking sectors.

Earlier, the authorities of Spain, Finland, Britain, Norway and a number of other countries announced the detention of the yachts of Russian billionaires. The number of luxury yachts detained is in the dozens.
