The Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic indicated that they had received information that there were fifty carcasses of seals on the shore next to the water intake dam. When specialists arrived at the scene, they found 22 dead seals.
“Inspection officers determine whether animal carcasses are subject to laboratory examination to determine the causes of death, since the carcasses are in a decomposed state”, - the report says.
Inspectors of the Fish Inspection Department and the Jaeger Service began to survey the coastal zone to identify other possible facts of release and detection of dead animals. Samples of water and soil were taken from the place of death of the seals. The carcasses will be handed over to the veterinary service.
