322 Soviet monuments and tombstones in Estonia are listed for demolition. The list was compiled by a commission under the state chancellery of the republic.

According to the ERR portal, since June, a commission on monuments has been operating at the State Chancellery, which determines tombstones and monuments with Soviet symbols, which are to be removed or replaced with neutral signs. The composition of the commission has not yet been made public for security reasons.

As Minister of Justice of the country Lea Danilson-Jarg pointed out, the names of the commission participants will be made public on November 30, when the work of the commission is completed.

“Then she will publish a list of mapped objects along with relevant recommendations for actions at these objects,” the minister said, adding that each recommendation is accompanied by justifications.

The campaign to dismantle Soviet monuments in the Baltic country began on 4 August. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas promised to dismantle Soviet monuments by early 2023. There can be up to four hundred such monuments on the territory of the country.

At the same time, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov announced that monuments demolished in neighboring republics would be restored in the country. The monument to the T-34 tank, similar to the one demolished in Estonian Narva, is the first of its kind.
