The Turkish parliament plans to consider the ratification of Finland's membership in NATO before the presidential elections in the country, which are scheduled for May 14. This was announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following talks with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto.

"We had to separate Finland's application from Sweden, because there were no such problems there", - the Turkish president explained. He added that the commission should consider the application first, and then the parliament. "I hope that we will resolve this issue before the elections", - he added.

Recep Erdogan noted that with Finland's entry into NATO, the alliance will become stronger.

When asked under what conditions the country can approve Sweden's membership in NATO, the Turkish president noted that only if the country starts the fight against terrorism.

"We will not be able to say yes to its membership in NATO if they are not next to us in the fight against terrorism", - Recep Erdogan added.

The President noted that the country was given a list of about 120 terrorists and asked to extradite them to Turkey. "The Prime Minister of Sweden is a good person, but the terrorists were not given to us," Recep Erdogan said.

Recall that Finland and Sweden decided to join NATO after the start of the special operation in Ukraine. In May last year, they applied to join the alliance. The issue of Sweden's accession to NATO stalled at the beginning of this year after an action was staged in this country to burn the Koran. It was organized at the Turkish Embassy.
