The European Council has agreed on a plan for the supply of shells to Ukraine totaling one billion euros. It is planned to realize deliveries by the end of May.

The decision was made due to the shortage of ammunition in Ukraine, the report says. The EU member states are compensated for the cost of ammunition supplied to the country.

"There is no better demonstration of the EU's determination to continue to support Ukraine's legitimate right to self—defense", - Josep Borrel, head of European diplomacy, commented on the decision.

Earlier, he declared his readiness to supply the country with up to a million artillery shells over the next 12 months. Prior to that, the head of European diplomacy noted the importance of organizing continuous supplies to the Ukrainian army. Otherwise, "the outcome of the conflict will be in jeopardy".

Since the beginning of the special operation, NATO countries have supplied Ukraine with weapons worth 65 billion euros, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said earlier. According to him, a program of long-term arms supplies to Ukraine is being prepared. To implement it, it will be necessary to conduct an audit of the ammunition stocks available in warehouses. Earlier, the NATO Secretary General spoke about the shortage of ammunition for supplies to Ukraine. Jens Stoltenberg called for increasing their production.
