“Not by a miracle, but thanks to the measures taken” Russia avoided the catastrophic development of the epidemic, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He underlined that it is necessary to remove the acting restrictive measures by stages and in a balanced manner.

Quarantine measures need to be carefully mitigated due to the high risk of the second wave of the epidemic, Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with RTVi.

- The risk is very big - renewal, the second wave, you can call it anything. First of all, this is a risk to people's health for the economy. Therefore, very balanced, carefully thought out and coordinated with experts decisions will be required, ”said the spokesman for the head of state.

He added that President Vladimir Putin instructed "to prepare estimates of such a plan" by May 5.

Peskov emphasized that the country was able to avoid the “Italian scenario” of the epidemic through tough measures, including a self-isolation regime. In addition, Peskov said, "sufficiently effective efforts are being made in Russia to convince people to stay at home."

According to him, the growth rate of cases of infection has moved from Moscow to the regions, despite the fact that the capital still takes first place in terms of the number of infected. Peskov noted that one can “timidly hope” that the country has reached a plateau of incidence, but much will depend on how citizens behave during the May holidays.

Recall that during the meeting on countering the spread of coronavirus infection in Russia, the president announced the extension of the self-isolation regime until May 11.

- Ahead is a series of May holidays, and between them are working days - the sixth, seventh and eighth of May. We know that in a normal situation, many would not work. They took time off, holidays. And now even more so you can’t take risks. Therefore, I think it is right to declare these three days non-working with the preservation of wages, ”the head of state said.

Following him, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that in the capital, non-working days would also be extended until May 11.

Now in Russia 99 399 cases of coronavirus are registered. In Moscow, 50 646 people fell ill.
