According to him, psychologists expected that quarantine would cause family conflicts, but did not think that there would be so many.
According to the Interfax agency, Ilgiz Timerbulatov compared the statistics of the spring months of 2020 on complaints and appeals of citizens to psychologists from last year:
- Against the backdrop of the coronavirus COVID-19, there was an increase in anxiety disorders by almost 40%, panic disorders - by 27% and obsessive conditions - by 21%, despite the fact that patients with a number of conditions began to less contact, fearing to go out and socialize.
Even in early April, despite the fact that nothing has passed since the quarantine was announced, numerous posts and comments on the Web already abounded with details of how difficult it is for some people to isolate themselves alone or, on the contrary, with relatives for 24 hours in day. And no comic encouraging pictures from the series “For the first time in the history of mankind there was a chance to save the world without getting up from the couch” did not help to reconfigure.
According to the April opinion poll , 21% of respondents experienced psychological problems , severe depression and stress during self-isolation. The most difficult thing was refused by those who were locked up with their family and children and continued to work remotely.
Up to two-thirds of calls to the hotline for psychologists from Bashkiria were associated with quarrels in families, and only a third - with fears of infection, fears for their loved ones and fear of their own death. The coronavirus itself, which became the cause of only a sixth of the calls, was not as scary as the measures to combat it - the loss of many jobs and forced imprisonment in cramped apartments.
Even now, despite the weakening of quarantine measures, the family conflicts accumulated over the previous months have “opened up and escalating", psychologists have noted a large influx of people who want to receive family therapy, especially among families with teenage children.
Ilgiz Timerbulatov also noted "a serious increase in aggression, mainly verbal, aimed at a partner, family problems, but also a rather serious increase in aggression, directed outward, to representatives of the authorities." Psychologists working on the hotline at the Ministry of Health and personifying callers "power" have to listen to everything that people think about it. "The task of the psychologist and psychotherapist is to try to take off the heat, but we understand that this issue needs to be addressed comprehensively, and not only by psychologists and psychotherapists", - said the head physician of the Republican Clinical Psychotherapeutic Center of Bashkiria.
The coronavirus pandemic was also a serious psychological test for physicians, many of whom had to spend a lot of time in their hospitals. Ilgiz Timerbulatov referred to testing specialists in one of the coronavirus clinics in Ufa: "they have very low interpersonal tolerance". According to the psychologist, this is associated not only with overloaded workloads and increased risks of infection for doctors, but also with an emergency selection of staff. Change of health workers should ideally be formed taking into account psychological compatibility. “For the future, we propose preparing reserves, a bench for those who can normally work with whom”, - concluded Ilgiz Timerbulatov.
