“Time has shown that this decision was right. Thanks to him, it became possible to obtain samples and data from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory. A reanalysis of the samples is still ongoing, but we already have samples from more than 50 Russian athletes who have been found to have prohibited substances. Accordingly, we can expect their disqualification, ”said the head of WADA.
He recalled that using the data from the Moscow laboratory, samples of 298 Russian athletes were checked and said that WADA sent all the information to anti-doping organizations.
On December 9, 2019, the WADA Executive Committee agreed with the recommendation of the Compliance Committee to exclude Russian athletes from participating in major sporting events, including the Olympics and Paralympic Games, for a period of four years. But the "pure" athletes still decided to admit to the competition, but only under a neutral flag. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency has lost its status. The decisions were to enter into force upon confirmation by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. The hearing was scheduled for July, but due to the pandemic, they were postponed to the first of November.
As the president of the World Anti-Doping Agency said, if RUSADA had not been restored in time, then there would not have been a trial.
The third (interested) persons who are allowed to attend the hearings will be the International Olympic Committee, the Russian Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the Russian Paralympic Committee, the International Hockey Federation and a number of Russian athletes.
