Belarusian websites stopped working after the elections

An hour after the end of voting in the presidential elections in Belarus and the announcement by the Central Election Commission of the leadership of Alexander Lukashenko with a result of about 80%, almost all the websites of the republic stopped working.

Not only independent websites are not opening, but also the official news agency Belta, and even the CEC website dedicated to the 2020 elections.

According to The Bell, the staff of the publication managed to open only two portals on the .by domain. They turned out to be the official website of the President of Belarus and the website of the KGB, but even that works with malfunctions.

Minsk journalists and experts, The Bell points out, were online in messengers for the last time around 21:00.

Internet interruptions in Belarus began on the morning of August 10. According to the officials, the reason is the DDOS attack on the providers of the republic and the growth of incoming foreign traffic.

And before that, the CEC warned presidential candidates that the country could face a disconnection of the Internet "in the event of a direct threat to security".

The previous evening, the former FBK IT consultant Vladislav Zdolnikov at 21:48 published a post on his Telegram about the disconnection of the Internet.

- 30 minutes ago in Belarus the Internet was almost completely turned off, - he wrote.

Let us recall that on August 9, after the closing of polling stations in Belarus, riots broke out. Protesters were detained by police. Human rights activists of the Vesna center reported at least 140 arrests throughout the republic. The Center later announced one death.
