Belarusian opposition calls on Aleksnadr Lukashenko "to leave the warpath"

- Dialogue is the only correct decision in the current situation and the only possible way out of the political crisis. We need to leave the warpath on the path of peace negotiations. It is too late, - said the report of the Coordinating Council.

Representatives of the opposition advised the head of the republic “not to recruit new political prisoners, but to release the existing ones”. “Defamation and intimidation of the disaffected” are “signals of war”, the oppositionists are sure.

Recall that the Coordinating Council was created a few days after the announcement of the official results of the presidential elections to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, ex-candidate for the head of state, announced its creation. The advisory body included about fifty people.

The Constitutional Court of Belarus called it illegal.

Note that Lukashenko does not intend to enter into dialogue with the opposition. The representatives of the Russian government do not see the need to talk with representatives of the opposition in Belarus. Maria Kolesnikova, a member of the council's presidium, said that Russian Ambassador Dmitry Mezentsev did not respond to letters sent to the opposition by e-mail. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the list of members of the Coordinating Council includes citizens whose names "we associate with individuals who advocate a cultural break with Russia, for using the slogan of Belarusization to infringe on the Russian language".
