Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin took into account the proposal of United Russia and the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers to abolish the mandatory QR codes for visiting catering establishments.

The party turned to Sobyanin with such an initiative after the number of detected cases of coronavirus in the capital fell 2-2.5 times.

Thus, from Monday, July 19, the QR-code system will cease to operate in Moscow. At the same time, Sobyanin noted that this does not mean the termination of all the requirements previously introduced to combat coronavirus. The mayor acknowledged that the QR code introduction measure has served its purpose. In addition, from Monday in the capital, food courts, night restaurants and nightclubs will be reopened.

Until July 19, in Moscow, only those who have been vaccinated against coronavirus, have recently been ill with it or have a fresh negative PCR test, upon presentation of a QR-code, can visit public catering establishments.

As noted by the secretary of the General Council of "United Russia" Andrei Turchak, the decision to introduce mandatory QR-codes was taken by the Moscow authorities against the background of peak incidence rates. However, on July 11, the volume of vaccinations increased more than 10 times and reached 110 thousand people a day. “The reduction in the number of contacts between people in confined spaces and the record pace of vaccination have made it possible to effectively break the chains of coronavirus infection. Such dynamics in vaccination and the falling number of cases now allow removing the requirements for mandatory QR-codes for visiting restaurants”, - added Turchak.
