In Kazakhstan, the director of a gas processing plant (GPP) in the Mangistau region was detained. He is suspected of unreasonably inflating prices for the resource.

This is reported by the TV channel Qazaqstan.

The head of the site for electronic trade of liquefied gas was also detained. The Financial Monitoring Agency initiated a pre-trial investigation in this case.

It should be reminded that protests have not subsided in Kazakhstan since January 2. Demonstrators from the city of Aktau demand a reduction in gas prices to 50 tenge. The price of the resource has doubled: from 60 to 120 tenge, after the country introduced settlements for it at the market price. On Tuesday, January 4, protesters were joined by demonstrators in other cities - Nur-Sultan, Taraz, Shymkent and Kokshetau.

The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of Kazakhstan has initiated an investigation into the owners of gas stations. They are suspected of price fixing.

The authorities promised to fulfill the demands of the protesters and reduce the gas price to 80-90 tenge, but this did not suit the demonstrators. The president was even forced to intervene in the situation. On January 5, it became known that the government of Kazakhstan had submitted its resignation.
