As one of the major retailers told Vedomosti, prices will rise by 7-17%, another interlocutor called the growth in premium positions at the level of 20-30%.
Retailers point out that such a sharp one-time jump in value has not been noted for several years. Suppliers explain that they are forced to raise prices due to a shortage of products caused by the fact that Japan and China bought more caviar from Russia than usual. In addition, the increase in logistics costs due to the lack of containers for transportation will have an impact on pricing.
According to the Federal Agency for Fishery, there is no shortage of salmon products in the country. There they linked the rise in prices to rising global demand. Currently, wholesale prices for caviar in Central Russia reach 4,500 rubles a kilogram, which is 10% more than in January 2021.
Last December, it was noted that the price of red caviar continues to grow, despite the promises of the head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov. In early September, he announced that this year a record amount of fish was caught in the Russian Federation, almost twice as much as in 2020 - 500 thousand tons.
