The director of the information security department of the Central Bank, Vadim Uvarov, on behalf of the Bank of Russia, warned citizens about a new fraud scheme. The attackers offer Russians who have previously become victims of scammers to receive "compensation". Thus, "cheating on cheating" occurs.

“Now we are celebrating a popular scheme with a proposal to receive an alleged compensation payment if a citizen has previously become a victim of fraudsters. This is the so-called variant of the scheme of theft "deception on deception". Since the beginning of May, we have initiated the blocking of 38 similar resources on the Internet, offering various "compensation", including the return of money stolen by fraudsters," Uvarov said at the conference "Regulation of commercial banks by the Bank of Russia", organized by the Association of Banks of the Russian Federation (quote from " Interfax ).

The website of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation says that the possibility of a return exists only when the client did not personally transfer funds to the accounts of the attackers, did not transfer his personal and financial data to the scammers.

In the first quarter of 2022, the number of transactions performed without the consent of a bank client increased in Russia. In total, up to 258 thousand such cases were registered, which is 7.8% more than in the first quarter of 2021. Growth is also observed in the volume, which amounted to 3.3 billion rubles ( +12.8% ). According to the regulator's report, the share of social engineering decreased by almost 4 percentage points (to 52.5% ). At the same time, only 6.2% of the stolen funds were returned , which is 1 percentage point less than last year.
