According to agency sources, Russian air carriers have begun using some aircraft as donors. The airliners had to be dismantled due to Western sanctions that prevent the purchase of spare parts.

Thus, airlines, including Aeroflot, heeded the recommendations of the authorities, who offered to dismantle some aircraft in order to guarantee the flights of other airliners until at least 2025. This was reported by four sources to Reuters in the aviation industry.

“At least one Russian aircraft Sukhoi Superjet 100 and Airbus A350, both operated by Aeroflot, is currently stopped and being sorted out”, - one of the agency’s interlocutors said.

Informants of the publication reported that the engine was removed from the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, which will ensure the flights of another aircraft of the same model. For their part, industry experts have said that engines are often swapped during the course of an aircraft's operation. Another source reports equipment removed from a pair of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.

The publication notes that some of the modern aircraft models (A320neo, A350, Boeing 737 MAX and 787) use technologies that require regular updates. A representative of one Western aviation industry called the failure of most of the Russian airline fleet a matter of time.

Based on Flightradar24 data, about 50 Aeroflot aircraft, or 15% of its fleet, including sanctioned aircraft, have not taken off since the end of July. According to Flightradar24, three of the seven Airbus A350s operated by Aeroflot, including one currently used for spare parts, have not taken off for about three months.

One of the interlocutors of the agency added that the reduction in the number of flights is also associated with the closure of the sky for Russians in Western countries, which is why some of the aircraft are not used and can be dismantled.
