Today is International Cat Day. Mos.ru provides recommendations from Yelena Ivanova, an animal care specialist at the Zelenograd shelter, for those who want to accustom their pets to the outdoors.

“The topic of walking cats on a leash around the city is ambiguous,”mos.ru quotes a specialist . - On the one hand, fresh air is good for the animal, and getting to know new places and smells stimulates the brain. On the other hand, walking can be a source of stress and even a health hazard for the cat.”

Elena Ivanova advises to accustom the animal to the street gradually. At the first stage, it can take from one day to several weeks, you need to help the cat get used to the special ammunition. The specialist recommends getting not a collar, from which cats are easily released, but a soft harness-vest with plastic clasps. It is necessary to put on a vest for the animal and dates

Let him get used to it, and after the cat calms down, fasten the leash to the harness and take a walk around the house. When the animal begins to perceive walking uniforms calmly, you can try to go outside. “Put on a harness and leash, take your pet in your arms or place it in a carrier. Let the cat go or open the carrier in a relatively quiet place close to home,” says Elena Ivanova.

It is necessary to wait until the animal gets used to the new space, slowly sniffing and studying everything. If the cat is nervous, you should return home. If everything is in order, you can continue, gradually increasing the time of walking: starting with 5-7 minutes, add 1-2 minutes every day. It is worth choosing not crowded and quiet places in squares and parks for the promenade. It is likely that over time the cat will get used to and even love to go outside.

It is important to take precautions: castrate the animal, in no case let it go on its own, carry out regular vaccination and treatment against parasites. If the cat has not managed to fall in love with the street and continues to be nervous, there is no need to insist on exits. Walking is not at all a necessity, and for many domestic cats, the master's house is quite enough.
