Another dry cargo ship blocked the movement along the canal, but this time not the Suez one, but the Volga-Caspian one, which connects the deep-water sections of the Volga and the Caspian Sea, bypassing the shallows.

This happened on the 155th kilometer of the canal with the "Port Olya-4" vessel, which was sailing to the Iranian port of Amirabad.

As reported by the "Interfax" agency, with reference to the press service of the head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Astrakhan region, at the moment the movement of ships along the Volga-Caspian sea shipping canal is suspended.

The signal about what happened in the northern part of the Caspian Sea arrived at 02:15 local time (01:15 Moscow time). According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there are no casualties, the water area is not polluted, the crew has a supply of food, and the ship's hull is not damaged. The vessel will begin to refloat after the improvement of meteorological conditions.

Earlier on March 23 this year, the 400-meter container ship Ever Given ran aground in the Suez Canal, blocking traffic on this important transport artery for a week. It was only possible to move it slightly after 20 thousand tons of sand were extracted from under the bow. This incident even had an impact on world oil prices, as it is transported from the Middle East largely through the Suez Canal.
