Russian actor, People's Artist of the RSFSR and Moscow City Duma deputy Nikolay Gubenko died at the age of 79. Cardiac arrest was the presumed cause of death. It is noted that the actor was ill for a long time.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the People's Artist. The chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov said that later the date and time of farewell to the actor would be announced, writes TASS.

The actor was born in August 1941 in Odessa. He played at the Moscow Taganka Theater, and in 1987 became the head of the theater troupe. Two years later, he became the Minister of Culture of the USSR. Since 1993, he headed the "Commonwealth of Taganka Actors". Since 2005 he became a deputy of the Moscow City Duma.
