Earlier Popkov was twice sentenced to life in prison for 81 murders and attempted murders of three people.
- During interrogation to investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the convict confessed to the murders of two women, which he committed in the period from 1995 to 1998 in Angarsk. Earlier, Popkov did not report these crimes to the investigation, - told the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Irkutsk region.
Popkov has already been charged in one of the episodes - the murder of a woman in Angarsk in 1995. Until now, she was reported missing. The offender confessed to another murder of a woman - in 1998, also in Angarsk. Currently, investigative actions and operational measures are being carried out to collect evidence.
Based on these episodes, Popkov wrote a confession when he was serving his sentence in Mordovia at the Torbeevsky central station (special regime for prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment).
Now, in connection with new episodes, the 56-year-old killer was transferred to Irkutsk and placed in jail-1.
Recall that in 2015, the former policeman Popkov was convicted of the murder of 22 women. He committed these crimes between 1992 and 2010. In 2018, he was convicted of the murder of another 56 people. Then he received a second life sentence.
Popkov committed his crimes in Irkutsk, Angarsk, Usolye-Sibirskoye, as well as in the suburbs. As a rule, he attacked the victims when they walked alone through the streets at night - he raped and killed. He often offered to give them a ride in a police car.
