In 11 Russian regions the proportion of Russians living below the poverty line exceeded 20% last year. The average Russian indicator was more than 12%. The worst of all in Tuva - there were 35% of the poor.

According to the RIA Novosti study, the minimum value was recorded in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug - 5.6%. In addition, the smallest proportion of residents living below the poverty line is noted in Moscow and St. Petersburg - 6.6% each, Tatarstan - 6.9% , Moscow region - 7.3%.

Ingushetia - 34.7%, Kabardino-Balkaria and Altai - 24.2% each, Jewish Autonomous Territory - 23.9% were among the five constituent entities of the Russian Federation, where the poverty level is very high, in addition to Tyva.

Analysts note that the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic will continue to affect the standard of living of most Russians. At the same time, the poor will become poorer, because even a small decrease in earnings makes them abandon basic spending.

Experts point out that it is important to understand the level of poverty that a country has approached to this crisis. Last year, almost 18 million Russians had incomes below the subsistence level — 12.3%. This is less than the result of 2018, when the indicator was 12.9%.

At the same time, earlier, analysts stated that half of the citizens in the country met the crisis without any savings. In addition, Romir holding experts conducted a study, the results of which showed that over the past year the amount of free money - the amount remaining after acquiring the necessary set of products and paying for utilities - was reduced by 40%.
