Hockey players of the youth teams of Russia and the Czech Republic could not fly from Canada to Germany due to alcohol intoxication, smoking and not wearing masks.

This was reported by "Kommersant" with reference to the Swedish journalist Marie Lehmann.

Both teams were removed from the flight by the aviation authorities when the athletes were already seated in the cabin.

A source for the Izvestia newspaper reported that the head coach of the Russian national team, Sergei Zubov, smoked when he walked with a cigarette in his hands through the sleeve of the plane boarding.

Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev, in an interview with SE, commented on the scandal:

- I'm ashamed if it's true. They acted like idiots. This is very ugly. Buy yourself a plane and smoke there. Our fighters did that too. This is, first of all, a swinish attitude towards their country. They set us all up. There must be some level of culture.

The youth ice hockey world championship was supposed to end in early January. However, due to identified infections with covid among athletes, the tournament was canceled.
