In Moscow, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Marina Lukashevich was detained, who became a defendant in a criminal case about embezzlement of 40 million rubles from the budget through fraud.

This was reported by TASS with reference to law enforcement agencies.

According to the agency’s interlocutor, as part of the investigation, Rossotrudnichestvo official Mikhail Popov was also detained.

The release, published on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that police officers conducted more than 30 searches in the homes and workplaces of two detainees whose names are not mentioned in the message.

The police became aware that in 2016, the head of a commercial organization entered into several contracts with IP-controlled companies to carry out work in the interests of the Ministry of Education and Science, but was not going to fulfill all their obligations. The results of the work done that do not meet the terms of the contract were provided to the customer. The work was taken by an accomplice of the suspect, who held a "leadership position in the department." As a result, the department suffered damage of 40 million rubles.

It is reported that a criminal case was instituted under article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”.

In mid-April, FSB officers reportedly detained the acting deputy head of Khakassia, Sergei Novikov, while receiving a bribe in the amount of two million rubles. The official demanded 12 million from a representative of a construction contractor for help in concluding a contract and accepting the work performed. He was detained in the act.
