Residents of St. Petersburg this morning heard the sound of a siren. This happened as part of a technical audit of centralized warning systems for the population. In addition to electromechanical and electronic sirens, television channels, broadcasting stations, loudspeakers and other means of warning were used.

“Together with the siren in St. Petersburg, they broadcast a message that explains what to do in case of a real alarm, ” the Caution News Telegram channel said.

The city authorities informed about the check of the public warning system in advance and urged the residents of the Northern capital not to worry. The check is regular, and the serviceability of the systems is checked annually. Sirens worked for half an hour - until 11:00.

“A comprehensive check is being carried out to assess the readiness and technical condition of the city’s warning system, to determine the serviceability of all used technical means and communication channels for mass notification of St. Petersburg residents about emergencies”, - RIA Novosti reports, referring to the notification of the authorities about the ongoing check.
