Participant of the protests in Khabarovsk: "The last straw was the rude detention of Furgal"

Sergey Furgal was born in a large family, where he was the tenth child. Three times before the governor's post - in 2007-2018 he was a deputy of the State Duma, in 2015-2016 he headed the committee on health protection there. In the 1990s, he worked as a doctor, then went into business, traded in Italian consumer goods, and then timber and scrap metal, financed the work and development of the Khabarovsk regional branch of the LDPR.

"For people, the last straw was the very rude detention of Sergei Furgal. He could have been quietly detained at work or at home without such coverage and so many law enforcement agencies. It was people from Moscow who came and carried out such a “beautiful” detention”", - said Dmitry Shishnev, a protest participant in an interview with Radio Sputnik.

Recall that the detention itself occurred on Thursday, July 9. Sergei Furgal was accused of organizing murders and attempted murders in the 2000s and was sent on the same day by plane to Moscow, where he was arrested for two months . Thousands of protests immediately began in Khabarovsk, reaching their zenith last Saturday.

Strikes, rallies and marches could have been avoided if law enforcement officers immediately entered into a dialogue with local residents, said public activist Salavat Suleymanov:

- If Sergey Furgal is guilty, then let the people explain before the court’s decision why he should have been detained, and detained so harshly. It was necessary to enter into dialogue, but this did not happen. People do not like this. My fellow countrymen from the Khabarovsk Territory have never considered themselves to be people who are rigidly trying to resist some decisions of the central government, we are very moderate in nature and behavior. We are very patient, but we are the heirs of those who mastered the Far East.

LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said that the ex-head of the apparatus of the former head of the region, Vyacheslav Shport, had allegedly turned to Sergey Furgal with a request to transfer a “box” of money to Moscow. In addition, according to Vladimir Zhirinovsky, such "boxes" are sent every year "throughout the country".

- He did not begin to carry for three years, he did not bring three boxes (with money) to Moscow! That's all! - said Vladimir Zhirinovsky, threatening to withdraw a fraction from the State Duma if Sergey Furgal is not released.
