The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Begov, said that the restrictions were extended at the request of Rospotrebnadzor in order to "interrupt the chains of the spread of coronavirus."

- Everyone is tired of restrictions, everyone would like to move freely around the country and the world again, to do without masks. But it will be possible to talk about this only when collective immunity is formed in society. This means that we must increase the rate of vaccination, - said Beglov.

Starting today, the city is prohibited from holding mass events, which gather more than 75 people. Cultural events held in theaters, concert halls, circuses and cinemas, coordinated with the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg, do not affect the restrictions. Sports events, which are held in agreement with the city committee for physical culture and sports, do not fall under the ban. However, special requirements have been introduced for them. In theaters and concert venues, the occupancy of halls should not exceed 1.5 thousand people, in circuses - 50% of the hall.

Spectators will not be allowed to attend sports and physical education, athletes, coaches and judges must first receive a negative PCR test for coronavirus. In addition, the occupancy of passenger ships that carry out transportation by inland waterway should also not exceed 50%.

Sanitary security measures have been strengthened since July 13, as well as control over observance of the mask regime in public places and transport.

Let us remind you that on the night of June 26, St. Petersburg hosted a multi-thousandth holiday for graduates "Scarlet Sails". According to some reports, the total number of spectators of the event could exceed a million people. In social networks, the holiday, held in the context of the third wave of the pandemic, was sharply criticized. However, the St. Petersburg authorities said that the holiday allegedly did not have a negative impact on the incidence of covid.
