Peskov: Putin considers it premature to evaluate his merits by a mosaic in the temple
Russian President Vladimir Putin knows about the mosaic with his image in the main temple of the Armed Forces that is under construction now, but believes that it is not the time to give an appraisal of his work in this way. The press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, said.
When asked by TASS about whether the president is aware of the project, Peskov replied that he was "informed".
“When they informed him about this, he smiled and said: “Someday, our grateful descendants will appreciate our merits, but now it's too early to do it”, - said Peskov.
We recall that the temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is being built in the Patriot park near Moscow in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Victory. The project is being implemented at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense. The mosaic has already been partially completed, portraits of the head of state, as well as the head of the Ministry of Defense, Sergei Shoigu and others, have already appeared on the walls. It is not said whether Putin’s image will remain after his words, or whether the mosaic will have to be destroyed and changed.
Note that among the immortalized in mosaics is also the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, the State Duma chairman Vyacheslav Volodin and even the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.
The decision to portray certain personalities was made by the artistic council for the construction of the temple. This was announced to Lenta.ru by the Chairman of the Council, Archpriest Leonid Kalinin. He noted that there was no agreement with these people.
“The Art Council considers these images to be absolutely appropriate, reflecting the historical truth, from which pages cannot be torn out involuntarily,” said the archpriest.
