As RBC reports with reference to BI.ZONE, fake theater sites look almost like real ones - there is both a poster and a description of the performances. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is proposed to buy tickets online. However, after paying on fake sites, tickets for the performances do not come.
Most often, fraudsters fake the sites of the Theater of Satire, Lenkom, the Maly Theater, theaters. Lensovet, Stanislavsky, Vasiliev, Tovstonogov, as well as the children's theater "Aquarium". The cybercriminals used the website of the State Academic Theater of St. Petersburg "Shelter Komedianta" as the basis for most phishing domains, probably because of its low level of protection.
The Satire Theater reported that there are two types of fraud - reseller sites that sell tickets at a premium, and fake sites where it is impossible to buy tickets. At the same time, a representative of the theater complains that there is no technical ability to quickly block such resources. According to him, if the spectator bears material damage, then the theater is reputational.
Yaroslav Kargalev, deputy head of the CERT-GIB Group-IB department, associates the rise in the number of phishing sites in theaters with a new type of fraud. Attackers meet the victims on social media or on dating sites and invite them to the theater. After that, the scammer throws a link to a phishing site with a request to buy out a place supposedly next to it. However, the victim does not receive a ticket.
