In the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Russia Day got the status of a public holiday. This year, for the first time, residents of the republic celebrated this day in this status. All residents of the region have an official day off in honor of the holiday.

“In 2020, the republic marks the first Russian Day as a public holiday. Six years ago, we chose our path with Russia and are gradually moving towards our goal. We are Russian in spirit and blood. Russia and us have one language, one culture, common history and values”, - is written in the congratulation of the head of the republic Denis Pushilin, on the occasion of the holiday.

The central streets of Donetsk were decorated with the flags of Russia, the Russian tricolor was raised in the main square of the city - in the square named after Lenin. There will not be a parade or a festive concert this year, but residents joined the celebration by hanging Russian flags on their balconies. At the entrance from Ukraine in the area of the checkpoint Yelenovka in honor of the new public holiday, they installed the city monument sign named Russia, the local newspaper newsfront.info reports.
