Earlier, the US State Department announced that it did not intend to seek the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria, but believes that this will adversely affect the situation in the country. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Russian troops are there at the invitation of the Syrian authorities: they help fight terrorists, while the presence of American troops in the country can be considered an occupation. The US Department of State believes that Russia is transporting its military and weapons to Libya through Syria. In Russia this information was denied, stating that the presence in Libya of any Russian mercenaries is not sponsored by Russia. At the same time, the UN confirmed that there are from 800 to 1.2 thousand Russian mercenaries in the country.
