A criminal case was opened in Belarus against the opposition on the seizure of power

Oppositionists consider her the winner of the elections; according to official data, the election was again won by the long-term head of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, with more than 80% of votes.

The head of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus Alexander Konyuk announced the initiation of a criminal case on the seizure of power, the Kommersant newspaper notes.

“The creation and activities of the coordinating council are aimed at seizing state power, as well as causing harm to the national security of the Republic of Belarus. A criminal case has been initiated on this fact under Article 361 of the Criminal Code”, - said Alexander Konyuk.

The Presidium of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian Opposition includes seven people - Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature Svetlana Aleksievich, former Minister of Culture and Ambassador of Belarus to Poland and France Pavel Latushko, lawyer Lilia Vlasova, Chairman of the strike committee of the Minsk Tractor Plant Sergei Dylevsky, lawyer of the electoral headquarters of the former head of Belgaz, the now arrested Viktor Babariko, and then - the headquarters of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya Maxim Znak, confidant of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya Olga Kovalkova, coordinator of the campaign headquarters of Viktor Babariko Maria Kolesnikova.

"They demand to transfer power to them. We regard this unequivocally - this is an attempt to seize power in the country with all the consequences that follow from this", - Alexander Lukashenko commented on the creation of the council. He threatened everyone who will enter or have already entered this council with retaliatory measures within the framework of the country's Constitution: "We have enough legal measures to cool some hotheads". He also called the opposition representatives included in the council "Nazis".

Meanwhile, Maria Kolesnikova, a member of the council's presidium, said that the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition will seek to hold new presidential elections as soon as possible, during which Alyaksandr Lukashenka will also have the right to be elected.

The counting of votes in the presidential elections in Belarus, held on August 9, led to a deep political crisis in the country, there are thousands of protests and strikes. Opposition supporters do not agree that Alexander Lukashenko won more than 80% of the vote. Initially, the protests were dispersed by the Belarusian security forces, they used rubber bullets and flashbangs, at least four protesters were killed during the protests, and dozens of people are reported missing. The police detained more than seven thousand people, hundreds of protesters were severely beaten, including after the arrest. Among the detained and beaten were Russian citizens who came to hand, some of whom had nothing to do with the protest actions.
