Afghan migrants blocked at the border of Belarus and Poland

According to RIA Novosti, migrants are forced to sit on bare ground. They all have only one tent. The border guards do not allow anything to be handed over to them. Human rights defenders managed to hand them some food and water on 19 August. There are no women and children among migrants. Basically, these are young men.

The soldiers, fielded by the wall along both cordons, are armed with machine guns. Poland insists that migrants are on the territory of Belarus, and the Belarusian authorities have allowed women and children to return to the country.

- We asked the Belarusian side to react to the situation. (The situation) has changed a little, because there are no more women and children there, - said the official representative of the local department of the Border Guard, Katarzyna Zdanovich.

Both Lithuania, Latvia and Poland have recently reported an increase in the number of detained illegal migrants at the border in Belarus. Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that he no longer intends to restrain the flow of illegal migrants.

Earlier, the Latvian authorities agreed on the introduction of an emergency situation on the country's border with Belarus due to the influx of migrants who are trying to illegally cross the cordon. The emergency mode will operate in the country until November 10.
