The news agency clarifies that the combined group included about ten people: five Republican senators and five Democrats each. If the joint work of representatives of the opposing parties proves fruitful, the final document will soon be submitted for discussion by the Senate, which may adopt it as early as next week.

“Representatives of both parties said they want to act quickly to support Ukraine”, - the Dozhd TV channel notes*.

In addition to increasing assistance to Ukraine, the senators are holding joint consultations on the possible imposition of sanctions against Russia, related to the expectation of a probable act of military aggression by the Russian Federation.

Sanctions may affect Russian President Vladimir Putin, members of the Russian government and those on the "Navalny list", as well as countries that buy weapons from the Russian Federation.

The Kremlin took the imposition of sanctions against Putin very painfully, comparing them with a break in diplomatic relations. After US President Joe Biden allowed the introduction of such sanctions, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement that if it depends on Russia, then there will be no war in Ukraine. At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, stressed that Russia would not allow the West to "rudely attack its interests".

Earlier it was reported that against the backdrop of growing expectations of war, a significant weakening of the Russian economy began: the ruble exchange rate and the stock market fell so much that in the last month alone, some Russian billionaires from the Forbes list lost up to a quarter of their fortunes.
