Police sprayed gas on Sennaya Square after several attacks on law enforcement officials. In St. Petersburg there has never been such a use of special equipment.

As the correspondent of "Fontanka" reports, riot policemen cut off people on Sadovaya Street on the outskirts of Sennaya Square. An unconscious man was brought into the paddy wagon - before that, according to eyewitnesses, five of him were beaten on Borodinskaya Street. He came to after being given water.

On January 31, a Fontanka correspondent filmed a group of protesters near the Youth Theater beating off their comrade, who was being detained by the police. Red paint is flying at the security officials.
